About This Item

London: Bell and Daldy, 1865. Large 4to., original cloth covres a bit scuffedand rubbed, with small stain right upper front cover, but binding tight. Owner signature (E. Wyatt Dane) front endpaper, date 1899 from Trinity College. All 26 maps / plans / charts / armorial crests and facsimile documents are in excellent condition with little browning or foxing. Battle plans are color coded for troop positions. Plate 23, a large plan of the operations of the Confederate armies (1709) has some right marginal chips and small tears, due to its size and the edges extending beyond the text borders (as bound), but the image itself is clean. There are maps of German operations in 1704 (before and after the battle of Blenheim), attack plan on the Schellenberg, battle plan of Blenheim, map of operations on the Moselle, plan of attack on French lines in Brabant, map of Principalit of Mindelheim, plan of battle of Ramilios, map for the siege of Ostend, outline map for campaign of 1707-08, pland of battle of Oudenard, map for siege of Lille, map of Confederate opertions 1709, battle plan of Malplaquet. Several notes in facsimile are present. The original title page tissue guard is present, as is the frontispiece "Bust of John, Duke of Marlborough". This is a very nice thematic atlas dealing with British empire history. This was the atlas to Coxe's "Memoirs of John Duke of Marlborough". A similar atlas, with a slightly different title, collation and publisher, was issued in 1820. (see online entries at COPAC). First Thus. Cloth. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
