About This Item

New York: Doubleday, Page & Co., 1902. NEAR FINE April 1902 Edition. AUTHOR INSCRIBED on front free endpaper, in black pen, "With the compliments of Eleanor Hoyt." Previous owner's small leather bookplate on front pasted end has caused a square of toning on the free endpaper, part of it over the inscription, but not obscuring it. No other markings. Pages fresh and fine. Green cloth hardcover is gilt-titled on spine; front cover has gilt title and decorations with blind embossed rule surrounding. Cover spine has darkened, spine ends and corner tips lightly rubbed, otherwise cover is fine. Slight lean to spine, some tearing to endpapers along hinges; binding and hinges remain firm and intact. 16 black & white illustration plates, including tissue-protected frontispiece. The first novel published by the popular author of the early twentieth century (and editor for the 'New York Sun'), Eleanor Hoyt Brainerd. 5-1/2 x 8". x + 213 pages. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Not Issued. Illus. by Stanlaws, Penrhyn.
