About This Item
This is a beautiful, well bound missal, 9" x l2", with fine quality paper, admirable illlustrations, large print, and four silk ribbons. The front cover has a gold inlay of Christ the Teacher. This volume is intended for use at the altar. It is three inches thick. Rubrics are presented in red. There are special tabs for the Eucharistic Prayers and parts thereof. This edition is distinguished by carefully prepared musical settings of various parts of the Mass, especially the prefaces of the Eucharistic Prayer. This music is presented in the traditional, four-line staff of Gregorian Chant. This 2002 edition supplants the previous edition, that of 1975. Many new saints, for example, have been added to the calendar since the second edition. With the exception of Kyrie, eleison, this missal is entirely in Latin, including the introductions and indexes, which are substantial.
The Eucharistic Prayers for Reconciliation and for Special Occasions are presented with the familiar four Eucharistic Prayers. Those for children's Masses are in an appendix. Although this book bears the title Missale Romanum, there are noScripture readings provided; these are availabled in the Lectionary. Hence, as with previous editions, this book is more a sacramentary than a missal. This is why the Americans titled previous translations as a sacramentary.
