Louis Untermeyer's anthology of modern British Poetry (being the 5th revised), with foreword and lengthy preface by Untermeyer, along with short introductory texts for each poet; this copy notable for a gift-inscription from Untermeyer to Eugene Goossens 'For Eugene Goosens with admiration Louis Untermeyer August 1943', with the addition (Untermeyer having mis[s]pelt Goossens' name) '& one extra S!'; Eugene Goossens was an English conductor and composer who spent nine years in Australia (1947-1956), during which time he became entangled in an infamous scandal involving Rosaleen Norton (The Witch of King's Cross), with whom Goossen's shared an intense relationship; a combination of intimate letters, so-called pornographic material, the odd rubber mask, and the investigations of a Sydney Sun reporter all resulted in the demolition of Goossen's reputation and his subsequent resignation from all positions - the scandal was later dramatised by Louis Nowra and novelised by Inez Baranay; endpapers, prelims and text block foxed, o.w.
