New York.: Time-Fortune. 11- 1935.. Illustrated article titled "The Modern Interior" from the November 1935 issue of the magazine. The article aims to clarify the term "modernism," with the first paragraph announcing that "many of those who cash in on Modernism and most of those who buy it are still in utter confusion over what it is, and isn’t.... The purpose of the article, thus, is to clarify and rectify this harmful and obstructive confusion." Tracing the origins of modernism to the Bauhaus, founded in Weimar in 1919, the article quickly shifts gears to discuss American furniture manufacturers and retail outlets (Macy’s, W. & J. Sloane), observing of the American public that "a lot of what they think of as modern isn’t modern at all." The article is illustrated with "Modern" color interior designs, the work of Gilbert Rohde in addition to numerous photographs of "modern" interiors. Page size 14 x 11 inches. A fascinating and attractive article with extensive illustrations; very good clean condition. .
