Publisher's green cloth, titled in gilt, in tan dust jacket; plain endpapers; 185pp; 2pp of black and white halftones. Brief contemporary annotations to front flap. A straight, clean copy, lightly rubbed, cloth lifting slightly over rear board, with minor browning to endpapers, else fresh: Very Good or better. Jacket externally browned, lightly rubbed, both flap folds split, rear flap fold mended with cellotape: Good.
With the prospectus. Bifolium (19cm), 4pp. Lightly rubbed, toned at edges, else fresh: Very Good. Replicating the title page, two pages of text, and the table of contents. Maria Montessori opened her first Casa dei Bambini in 1907. She attracted international attention by 1909, and the first public Montessori programs in the UK were operational by 1912. White as of 1912 was a member of the new Montessori Society, and read an early English translation of The Montessori Method. Her book is an account of "two months' observational work carried on in Italy" in 1913, aimed to provide more detailed information about Montessori schools to a British audience (5). Well represented institutionally, but uncommon in the trade.
