First American edition, octavo, pp. vi, 401 plus a pp. 32 ad catalogue at rear. Publisher's teal colored cloth with upper board and spine lettering gilt and an upper board soldier illustration in black, red, and white, with a nicely done touch of gilt on soldier's hat. Twelve full page illustrations (frontis is tissue-guarded) by Wal Paget. Several maps, one is full page. Dark blue endpapers. All page edges originally decorated in an olive green shade, somewhat faded over the last century. Board tips and spine ends with light bumping and shelf wear. Very Good withal.

Bound in original well preserved green cloth with gilt embossed lettering and colour embossed picture to the front board and spine. All edges coloured green. Illustrated with 12 full page b/w plates , including a frontispeice plate - all as called for. The book has a little spine lean. Bumps to the head and tail of the spine. School presentation bookplate to the front paste down from Royal Grammar School, Guildford, dated 1902. The frontispiece plate is loose with some creasing to the periphery and ligth foxing to the reverse. Clean and tight. A very good copy.
