Gilt titling and frame decoration to boards. Inner edge dentelle. A.E.G. Marbled endpapers. xvi, 240 p.p. Copiously illustrated throughout with B&W engravings in-text by Leighton, Dalziel, Whymper, Green, De Wilde, and others. Engraved frontis with tissue guard. Professionally rebacked, original boards and original spine laid down. Cloth hinge repairs. Light wear to spine and edges, bumping to corners. Gilt decoration to outer edge significantly rubbed and worn. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown, pencil ownership inscription to flyleaf. Small chips to corners of marbled endpapers. Some intermittent light staining to interior, but text remains legible. One short tear to foot of p. 7.
