Signed limited edition, one of only 500 copies printed for private distribution under wartime conditions, this copy presented to the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarter Allied Expeditionary Forces. One of the most lovely editions of Mother Goose, quite scarce in this edition, much more often seen in poor condition. With this copy is letter from the publisher presenting the book to the Gen. Thomas J. Betts: "a special edition which we have prepared for our friends this Christmas." After the war, General Betts became the Director of Intelligence, US Group, Control Council Germany. 7.25'' x 6.5''. Original green pictorial cloth stamped with Mother Goose scene in gilt to front board. In original dust jacket and slipcase with pictorial label. Color pictorial endpapers, green topstain. Illustrated by Tudor on every page, most in color, with verse below. 87, [1] pages. Signed by Tudor on limitation page at rear. Jacket toned save for a slender line near each joint, small chip to rear panel, and a few closed tears repaired with tape on verso; slipcase neatly strengthened on corners.
