About This Item

London : Watts & Co., 1926. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 55 pages. There are two ownership signatures on the front paste down; the other fault is with four hinges: the one along the titles in the Forum series has been reinforced with clear tape; ditto the hinge along the copyright page and between pages 8-9, though here the tape is missing leaving only the vertical stain; the hinge along the title page is cracked, though the binding remains very good and there are minor neat pencil annotation along the blank edge of page 37. despite these faults, it remains an attractive copy. Includes two full page sketches by Low, one of Wells, one of Belloc. "Mr. Belloc Objects to "The Outline of History" is a 1926 short book written by the British novelist H. G. Wells as a rebuttal of the criticism of historian Hilaire Belloc. In 1926, Belloc published his A Companion to Mr. Wells's "Outline of History" as a critique of Wells' earlier historical textbook, The Outline of History. A devout Roman Catholic, Belloc was deeply offended by Wells' treatment of Christianity in The Outline." (Wikipedia)
