Mr. Greville Verney (1687-1703), a handsome young aristocrat, looks straight at the viewer while pointing to Hudson's Bay on the large globe with one hand and holding a print in the other. His silk cloak and dressing gown fly around him, implying rapid movement. His enthusiasm for life is captured in the contentment on his face and his various interests. The original painting was done by Michael Dahl, a Swedish born portrait artist, who worked in London, and the mezzotint was by a Welsh engraver, Robert Williams, one of the earliest mezzotinters.
