New York.: New York Herald Co.. 1911.. Six newspaper sheets in color, 17 x 23 inches, from the May and June 1911 "Children's Section" of the Sunday Oregonian (Portland, Oregon). Sheets are in very good condition, with occasional very short tears in the margin of the page, never impacting the comic strip itself. On verso of the Mr. Twee Deedle newsprint sheet are black and white features for children (these are invisible on Gruelle's brightly colored page: i.e.--no bleed through). Over a century old; 6 uncommon newspaper comic strips in very good clean condition. Gruelle's prize-winning comic strip began publication in 1911 and continued into 1915. It featured the wood sprite of the title and two children, Dickie and Dolly. Gruelle is best remembered for Raggedy Ann, which debuted shortly after Mr. Twee Deedle had ended its run. The six original 1911 sheets are in excellent condition and were created for, and syndicated by, the New York Herald Company. .
