The Murderess

by Papadiamantis, Alexandros

Condition: Near Fine/Very Good

London: Writers and Readers, 1983. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo (small). Translated from the Greek by Peter Levi. Black cloth boards, gilt lettering to spine. xiii, 127 p.p. Dust jacket has some age toning and bumping to edges, bump to spine foot. Written in 1903, The Murderess is a classic of modern Greek literature, a popular tragedy, audacious in conception and subtle in execution. Its heroine, ferocious in her womanhood, is reminiscent of Antigone and Hecuba, who confronts 'woman's fate' with her own violent final solution.
