Lovely color stipple engraving of a black mulberry from the 'Traite des Arbres Fruitiers' commonly considered to be the finest work on fruit ever printed. Pierre-Antoine Poiteau (1766 - 1854) was a French botanist, gardener and botanical artist. In 1835, with Pierre-Jean-François Turpin, Poiteau published a new edition of the Traité des arbres fruitiers (Treatise of the fruit trees) by Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau. Plate size 9 1/2 x 12'; paper 12 1/2 x 19 3/4". OCLC: 1029996597.
