Water staining to some pages, text remains unaffected. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Dents to rear board edges. Staining overall.

Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout, heavier at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Previous owner's inscription to front free end-paper. Cracking to gutters, with exposed netting causing the binding to be shaky. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is darkened.

Dust jacket has two short closed edge tears, rear panel mildly rubbed, presents nicely in a new protective mylar sleeve. This edition us an unabridged republication of the second edition, as published by T. Fisher Unwin in 1896 under the same title. A foreword has been added to this edition. Illustrated with photographs, 360 pages.

The book has clean covers, usual sunning to edges and spine, old owner gift inscription on front pastedown otherwise no owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, tight binding. The original dust jacket has 15mm deep loss at top of spine, larger loss upper rear corner, loss lower front near spine. The book measures 209mm tall x 135mm, and has 256 pages, 16 b/w photo plates. Nice reprint of the 1908 4th printing which includes extra introduction by Mummery's wife plus transcripts of Mummery's letters from Nanga Parbat (total of 13 pages).
