Description:
The First UK printing published by Heinemann, London in 1937. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a few light markings to the boards and light pushing to the spine ends. The gilt titling remains bright and the blue top-stain is still present. The usually encountered darkening to the cheap paper quality endpapers. Free from inscriptions. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with just a hint of toning to the spine and the slightest of fading of the red colouring to the spine. The 'Book Society Choice' WRAPAROUND BAND is complete and is in near Fine condition with just a little toning to the spine. The Gladys Calthrop wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. A ' The Book Society / 'Present Indicative' ' bookplate (designed by Rex Whistler) has been signed (without dedication) by Noel Coward and is tipped in to the front pastedown. A further generic 'The Book Society' bookplate has been pasted to the front blank end paper. The acclaimed… Read More

Description:
Hodder & Stoughton. First UK edition published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1920. This is a very good copy with the illusive dust wrapper. The wrapper has small slithers of loss to the top and bottom of the spine and to the corners. There are 2 small tears to the front panel. The spine has browned. The price on the spine is showing as 6'- net. The book in red boards has sunning to the spine ends and the corners are lightly rubbed. The first couple of pages have a patch of browning. There are no foxing marks though to the pages or text blocks and no previous owners ink. Overall a very good copy. The unusual and rarely found dust wrapper shows a map of Russia covered in darkness. H.G. Wells writes a series of essays about Russia after he visited there in 1914 and then again in 1920 and these were originally published in The Sunday Express as he was travelling through the country. He met with and had a long conversation with Lenin along with his friend Maxim Gorky. He describes both… Read More

"The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
