About This Item

Sepia photographic and pages along with pink free end pages – please see photograph. White coloured boards with pink and red coloured titles to the back strip. Sepia toned photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. In very conservative Melbourne of the 1940s a young poet, Christopher Chubb, creates a mythical poet of raw power and sexual frankness – Bob McCorkle, and a body of work – and submits said poetry to the most avant-garde of literary magazines. The magazine publishes this poetry and is then prosecuted for publishing obscenity. At the trial, a man, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the mythical Bob McCorkle leaps to his feet and "... At this moment a horrified Chubb is confronted by the malevolent being he has himself manufactured." -- from front fold over panel blurb. The manufactured Bob McCorkle haunts his creator, even following him to Kuala Lumpur, eventually destroying him. Softening of the back strip edges with uniform tanning of the text block edges and pages. A little chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
