Autobiography of the fourth prime minister of Israel, and the first woman head of state in that country. Born in Kyiv, her family emigrated to the United States and she became a naturalized US citizen in 1917 but her goal was to settle in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine, and in 1921, after the first World War, she and her husband and her sister did so, with Meir joining a kibbutz. She comments in this book that "To me, being Jewish means and has always meant being proud to be part of a people that has maintained its distinct identity for more than 2,000 years, with all the pain and torment that has been inflicted upon it."
