MY REMINISCENCES AS A COWBOY by Harris, Frank - 1930

Illustrated cover and endpapers, published 1930. On pg 113 there is a pinki sized soil spot to the exterior margin which bled thru 2-3 pgs, does not interfere with text. Black/white illustrations by William Gropper, a devout socialist who did artwork for The Worker as well as gaining traction as a WPA artist. This publisher put together a well regarded group of artists and editors to produce the "Paper Books" series, Rockwell Kent designed the endpapers.

Foxed page edges with occasional spots in page margins not affecting text or illustrations by William Gropper though they are mildly and evenly yellowed. Cover artwork is still compelling but the spine panel is in a bad state, browned and wrinkled with a slant, binding not very strong but holding together, beginning to split in pastedowns. Nice pictorial endpapers, 215 pages. Good reading copy.

Kallen provides a helpful Preface to the life and work of Frank Harris, 75 years old in 1930 when he penned this fine and racing memoir. Tan, black and brick-red printed, illustrated wraps depicted a bucking bronco, but the interior illustrated duotone endpapers are a treasure, being a pastoral scene but thick with fluttering books! Light wear to and some soiling of wraps, generally clean and unmarked of interior, a few dog-ears here and there, but augmented with William Gropper's black-and-white, full-page illustrations. 217 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
