Inspiration for the American half-hour television sitcom starring William Windom as John Monroe, a Thurber-like writer and cartoonist who works for a magazine closely resembling The New Yorker called The Manhattanite. Contains the first book appearance of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, also made into a film, once in 1947 starring Danny Kaye and again in 2013 with Ben Stiller.
