About This Item

Orlando, Florida, U.S.A.: Harcourt Childrens Books, 1996 Anne Neimark writes biographies in a reader-friendly way in order to allow access to young people. Deigo Rivera and Che have also been her subjects. This book, a stated first edition, first printing, which reads like a novel, is beautifully illustrated by Brad Weinman and has a very fine frontispiece photo portrait of Tolkien by Lord Snowdon. This copy is in Very Good - condition, in that the corners and edges are worn and fos on inside cover. Binding is good and it is still an attractive book in good used condition. The dust jacket is unclipped and complete, rolling at the edges, and has some taped repairs.

Synopsis

A philologist of world renown, a professor at Oxford, and the author of academic treatises, J. R. R. Tolkien was far more than a fantasy book writer. His lifelong fascination with medieval texts and languages gave him a unique vision and endless inspiration for his tales. His broad interests made possible his creation of faery worlds and entire races of beings, as well as the languages, cultures, and characters that make his books as engaging today as they were fifty years ago. This clear and thoroughly researched biography of the creator of The Hobbit is accompanied by magical illustrations that recall the mystery of Tolkien’s imaginary worlds.
