1832 Moby Dick Inspiration Morrell Narrative of Four Voyages Shipwrecks Melville

Benjamin Morrell was a 19th-century American sailor who is primarily remembered for his book 'A Narrative of Four Voyages'. This book described his sea adventures, his discoveries, and shipwrecks; however, much to his dismay, many of the reports in his book were proven false and he was marked as a fraud.

And while much of his work is disputed, one such thing that is not is that Herman Melville is thought to have based themes of his book 'Moby Dick'. As a child, Melville saw Morrell on one of his voyage tours and was fascinated by the stories.

Description:
1537 1ed Orthodox Saint John Chrysostom On the Priesthood + Brixius Marburg

A rare 16th-century printing of works of John Chrysostom. Chrysostom was one of the most important Early Christian Church authors and preachers and is most remembered for his sermons and homilies. He preached on many different subjects, but his most frequented topic was helping the needy. Chrysostom calls for followers of Jesus to set aside their material desires to help the poor, often in a way that shamed the rich and guilted them in to giving.
"Do you pay such honor to your excrements as to receive them into a silver chamber-pot when another man made in the image of God is perishing in the cold?" (Chrysostom in Liebeschuetz)

One of his most important treatises was 'On the Priesthood' in which he describes his experiences becoming a priest and living as a priest. Interestingly, this work was popular during his lifetime as he made references to it in his other works.

1623 John Wemyss The Christian Synagogue JUDAISM in Scotland Hebrew Temple RARE

John Wemyss was an early 17th-century Scottish clergyman who was much better known for his studies in Hebrew exegesis. He is widely considered to be the pioneering Jewish scholar in Scotland, much in part to this advocating for Jewish culture in Scotland. In 1623, Wemyss, also spelled Weemes, published his first work of Judaica, 'The Christian Synagogue'. In this book, Weemes focuses on the customs of both the ancient Hebrews and modern Jews and the many Europeans that have converted to Judaism. There is a heavy emphasis on prayer and sacrifice throughout this book. According to Culotta, Weemes compares the use of prayer and sacrifice in both the Hebrew temple and the Hebrew synagogue.

This book also contains descriptions of the Old Testament Hebrew temple as well as the Temple of Jerusalem as it was during the time of Moses.
