The cloth is soiled and has some red ink stains on the back. Light dampstaining on the last several leaves, and all pages foxed. Text otherwise unmarked and binding secure for reading purposes. German traveler Friedrich Gerstaecker (1816-1872) made a trip around the world around the time of the Gold Rush. This narrative of his includes information on California and the South Pacific.

Author's travel to South America, South Sea Islands, Australia and Java in 1849-1852.
