A Narrative of the Last Illness of The Right Honourable Earl of Orford by John Ranby - 1745

London - John and Paul Knapton, 1745 Book. GOOD ONLY though. Hardcover. A uncommon medical pamphet from the Eighteenth Century. Written by John Ranby, a prominent surgeon noted for his bad manners and inflammatory views, the pamphlet was heavily criticised amongstphysicians at the time as it condemned the use of lithontryptic lixium for treatment of kidney stones, as was used on Sir Robert Walpole during his 'last illness'. Contains a pull out diagram relating to the illness. Condition: Disbound with both boards missing. Externally, the title page (in absence of boards) is foxed and creased, and the backstrip is worn. The back page is also marked and creased. Internally, the pages are generally firmly bound but are foxed throughout, although the text remains clear. Overall: GOOD ONLY though disbound.
