Description:
Lewis Osborne, 1966. Hard cover. Very Good/No dustjacket. Major C. Bolin, aka David Butler, was one of the many notorious individuals of the California Gold Rush. From the Introduction by Richard Dillion, noted librarian and author on many articles and books on California, "The name was an alias adopted by an Ohio Argonaut in 1853 when he became a gambler in the California mining camps. His real name was Major C. Bolin, the Major being his first name and not a military title." This is an account, in Bolin's own words related to his attorney, A. A. Sargent, of his life in California and Oregon that ended with a dramatic escape from prosecution for murder, to be capture, returned for trial, conviction and execution.
