Lord Strabolgi,RN.,formerly of the Admiralty War Staff and Assistant Chief of Staff,Gibraltar, with his wide naval knowledge and experience, here gives us, authoritatively, the first connected account of the Scandinavian operations. Many of the facts have been supplied by the Ministry of Information,Admiralty,War Office and Air Ministry, and others by Norwegians who were eye-witnesses of the German aggression, helped to organize their country's resistance, and took part in the heroic struggle against overwhelming force.Apart from the historical importance of this book, and the graphic accounts of the operations,it describes in full detail the brilliantly fought naval actions at Narvik and the campaign for the recapture of Trondheim. The author also examines the causes of the initial failure to eject the Germans from Norway, and the technical lessons to be learnt from this.Lord Strabolgi, who has made a lifelong study of strategy, describes the importance of the Norwegian coast in any war in which the British Empire may be engaged, and exposes the Nazi plans which are now (then) in process of frustration.
