New York; (1861): Johnson, Fry & Co. First Edition. Quarto. In two volumes , 488pp, 470pp. portrait frontispieces, engraved vignette title page, regular title page, with portraits from original full length paintings by Alonzo Chapell of presidents, jurist authors, naval and military heroes, etc. with biographical and historical narratives by the author. A very handsome set bound in publisher's full dark brown morocco, central title and flourishes gilt within blind stamped decorative border, raised bands, compartments lettered in gilt and decorated in blind, all edges gilt. Only minor post of rubbing to binding, faint circular dampstains to title page of volume one. Very nice set.
