Groningen: The New England Unit of the Herb Society of America, 1983. A fine association copy from the library of W. T. Stearn with three inserted letters; a gift inscription to Stearn from the Editor Lillian Sparrow Barrow to the end paper dated 3 October 1967. The first letter is a typescript (not signed) from Stearn to Mrs R.S. Barrow dated 8th November 1967, tipped on the rear end paper, in which he politely points out a small error in the book. The second letter is 3 sides autographed and signed from Lillian S Barrow to Stearn, dated 14 November 1967 and responds among other items to the error; the third letter is typed, signed, from Mary Lines Wellman to Stearn and inquires about herb books with reference to Greece. 76 pages, illustrations. Green cloth hardback binding very good with minimal wear only. Contents clean and tight. A very good copy. An English translation of the original French edition of 1731, with all woodengraving illustrations reproduced. [Provenance: from the library of Prof. William Stearn, "doyen of British botanists" who wrote c. 500 papers and books, including the classic "Botanical Latin".
