Condition: Very Good/N

Edinburgh: W H LIZARS, 1841 A very good copy of Jardine's Marsupials, volume XI of the Mammalia, and volume XXX in Jardine's Naturalist's Library in the original brown cloth binding. With 35 hand coloured plates as called for. With volume listing; half title; frontispiece portrait of Barclay; hand coloured vignette title page; 2 further title pages; publisher's advert; contents listing; Memoir of John Barclay; text with black and white illustrations; and 35 hand coloured plates bound at the rear. The binding has been rebacked relaying the original spine so it is sound and tight. There is some fading to spine and edges but it is in very good condition. The original endpapers have been retained with repair at the joint. There is a decorative bookplate of Francis Hemming, the noted entomologist to the front pastedown, together with an ink signature dated 1842. The contents are in very good condition. The text has light toning to pages but is clean with occasional pencil annotation. There is slight rumpling to the edges of initial text pages. The plates are all tissue-guarded with some offsetting to the guards. They are in very good condition. Plates are numbered to 34, but there are 2 versions of plate 2. The book has a slight smokey odour.
