EDINBURGH: W H LIZARS, 1837 1st edition of Volume V of the Jardine's Naturalist's Library which includes elephants, hippos, hogs etc. In the original publisher's 'luxury' green leather binding with red page marker and gilt page edges. With 30 plates of which 26 are hand coloured. Issued as a single volume rather than in parts, presumably for people who did not want to subscribe to the whole series. With engraved frontispiece of Sir Hans Sloane; vignette title page showing Indian Elephants (with a different title to the usual one); a further title page; contents listing; Memoir of Sir Hans Sloane; text with engravings and 30 plates of which 26 are hand coloured. The binding has wear to edges, including spine joints, and wear to corners. There is some scuffing. Internally the original endpapers have a little marking to edges. The contents are very clean and bright with well coloured plates.
