Carl Hertzog was the director of the press. From page 3 of volume 1, "Surprise and bafflement have always accompanied Anglo-American's realization that the Navajo - largest and most rapidly growing tribe in the United States - retain the core of their aboriginal being and usually resist outsiders' attempts to 'Americanize' them."
