SIGNED by the author on the half title page. Edith Hahn Beer (1914-2009) was Jewish woman from Austria who survived the Holocaust by marrying a Nazi officer. She used duplicate papers of a Christian friend to pose as a Christian and hide her Jewish identity, and she went to Munich, volunteering as a German Red Cross nurse. She met Wener Vetter, who was a member of the Nazi party, and they got married. Vetter eventually became an officer, and he was captured by the Russians and sent to a prison in Siberia. After the war, Edith presented her Jewish identity card to claim her true identity. She was able to use some influence to free her husband from the Siberian prison (1947), but the marriage ended after the truth of her identity came out.
