1907 1ed Arctic Voyages Robert Peary Nearest the Pole Illustrated Eskimos MAP

Robert Peary was a 19th-century American explorer who made his fame on his numerous expeditions to the Arctic regions and claiming to have reached the North Pole. Prior to his 1909 expedition to the North Pole, Peary published an important report describing his Arctic voyages. In 'Nearest the Pole', Peary recounts his failed attempt to reach the North Pole; however, in 1909, Peary would redact many of his findings and assumptions made in this work when he did ultimately reach the North Pole.

This 1907 first edition book is one of the best accounts and descriptions of Ellesmere Island – beautifully illustrated with folding map of the expedition route.

Description:
1901 Booker T Washington 1ed Up from Slavery American Poverty KKK Racism

"Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others."
― Booker T. Washington, Up from Slavery

Booker T. Washington was a famous 19th-century American civil rights activist known for his anti-slavery platform during the height of Negro lynchings in the American South. Born as a slave child during the American Civil War, Washington describes his difficulties and obstacles in his autobiography 'Up From Slavery'. This work follows more than forty years of his life, the state of race relations, and the rise and fall of the Negro social ladder.

While many authors and political leaders, such as WEB du Bois, were highly critical of Washington's work, he still emphasized the importance of education among the black population, especially in the South, which was a realistic tactic to easing racial tensions. This book was also gives the first mention of extremist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan.

1787 Daniel Defoe Voyage Round the World English Colonization Robinson Crusoe 2v

"It is never too late to be wise."
– Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe

Daniel Defoe was an English author who gained enduring fame for his novel, Robinson Crusoe. Defoe is notable for being one of the earliest practitioners of the novel and helped popularize the genre in Britain. In some texts he is even referred to as one of the founders, if not the founder, of the English novel.

While Robinson Crusoe is his best and most iconic work, he wrote numerous other works including another adventure voyage book called "A New Voyage Round the World". Certainly this work is nowhere near as popular or as well-known as 'Robinson Crusoe', it does show Defoe's interest in world travel and English colonization. According to Jane Jack,
"Colonization made a deep appeal to Defoe's imagination. To him, a colony was a symbol. It stood for his optimistic conception of human nature, representing his conception of the good life of… Read More

1775 Revolutionary War MONEY 1ed Early American Banknote $2 Bill Dollars Finance
An incredibly rare and valuable 18th-century example of Revolutionary War money!
During the height of the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress needed finding a way to pay the newly found American army. In 1775, the Continental Currency was first printed to supplement income. And while the value of these notes depreciated in value throughout the war, they hold significant historical and financial value today. These notes hold a reminder of the horrors of uncontrolled inflation and provide an important view into the history of American finance.
This two-dollar note was printed in Philadelphia by Hall and Sellers in 1775 – an incredible example of first edition American money!
