Her father, a Scot, served as a medical missionary in British Central Africa (Nyasaland) and then, for thirty-three years, in Manchuria; her mother, from Melbourne, was also a missionary. Nessie, while educated in Melbourne, became a Manchurian missionary herself in 1933. Her story is packed with family, nursing, travel, service and personalities - with many photographs (and family genealogical chart taped at rear page).
