London: J. Cooke, 1770. 1st Edition . Very Good. 8.75 x 10.5 inches (22 x 27 cm). Volume I only (of a two volume set). Contemporary full calf binding, slight wear to ends of spine and board corners, title label chipped. Marking and scratching to boards, good solid binding with both boards securely attached. Two inscriptions to leading blanks, dated 1789 & 1792. Map is present - torn but with an old and good quality repair. Fully collated. Several pages misnumbered as expected, text is complete. Numerous plates. Singe to upper margin of plate facing p376. The scarce first edition. This first volume covers the period from the Roman Conquest to the death of Elizabeth I in 1603. Overall condition is Very Good. Please Note: This is a heavy item and international postage will be more than the standard rate.
