About This Item
Lowell, MA: Bootstrap Press, 2010. First printing. 158 pp., 5.5 x 8.75 inches. Limited edition of 258 numbered copies, bound in decorated cloth, with five pieces of ephemera laid in, as issued. Edited by James Dunn, and with an introduction by the editor and publishers. As new.
A New Book from Rome is a transcription (with some facsimile pages) of the contents of a notebook, a journal kept during "a six-month period from July, 1969 to January, 1970, covering his stint in Central Islip State Mental Hospital on Long Island to the time around Charles Olson's death when he was back in Massachussetts living with his parents." The five pieces of ephemera include: "The Flight of Stairs," a poem for Wieners by his friend and editor of the volume James Dunn (single sheet folded to make four pages, and also including a list of the ephemera); "John Wieners, NYC 1968," a photograph by Jerome Mallmann; "Photo of John Wieners, Sheraton University City Hotel, April 1997," a photograph by James Dunn; "Collage" by John Wieners and James Dunn, Orono, Maine, 2000; and a 2002 photograph of the last pen Wieners used before his passing.
