02-11- 1860.. Weekly illustrated newspaper; 16 x 11 inches; pp 193-208; disbound, with separation at spine edge. Overall very good clean condition. Text introducing Part I dealing with the slums of New York City observes: "Let the public...look at these plague-spots - this dark background of our civilization - and devise measures to remove it, if such a thing be possible.... Criminals...build houses without the slightest regard to the health of their occupants. Every one of them should have a death's head engraved on the door handle." The first entry in the series is titled "Dutch Hill." "Where is Dutch Hill?" writes the author. "Proceed up Second Avenue as far as thirty-eighth street, and you will be in full view of the spot.... Its principal productions are pigs, goats, cats and dogs, together with an indefinite number of Irish Americans." A two-page centerfold illustrates the blight and poverty of Dutch Hill's residents. .

New York: The International News Company, 1939. Pp.695-766 + 4p., about 75 pages total. Softbound magazine (the original of course) in 14x10 inch color wraps, coated paperstock, staplebound with profuse sepia, b&w, tinted and colorwork throughout, mostly rotogravure; complete issue without any excisions or ownership or other markings. Externally a good-only copy: staples a little rusted with text-edges somewhat worn, mild external grubbiness; internally quite good. Exceptionally clear photo-reproduction of Fair (includes a half-page aerial view in colors), ancient choo choo trains, modern German battleships, Hitler and fascistica (with swastikas "photoshopped" as it were, for emphasis), movie reviews with production stills, a great variety of ads including topnotch autos, and..some boring stuff.
