New York, 1839. Hardcover. Very good overall. Includes an impressive full page advertisement for Burton & Gurley, Bank-Note Engravers of New York with many design examples, as well as a stunning steel engraved view of the Hudson River ("View on the Hudson, The Palisades", after J. G. Chapman, p185). Also includes article by John Neal, titled "New England Witchcraft" (p337). The New York Mirror published music, poetry and literature by important period authors, including Charles Dickens, Washington Irving and Oliver Wendell Holmes. June 1838 to June 1939, complete. Folio, frontispiece portrait, three quarter brown leather and marbled boards, with gilt title label on spine. Title label slightly chipped at edges; internally, the bank note engraving sheet (at p24) printed on thin paper right side has numerous rips and an early restoration from the rear (see photo), otherwise plates bright and clean.
