Boston: Doyle and Whittle, 1885. Hardcover without dust jacket, 202 pages including black-and-white illustrations, plus 4 pages of Press Notices; intact but with losseness in binding (some pages and sections are separated from the back strip or literally hanging by a thread), covers rubbed and heavily worn, all pages and the frontpiece illustration of St. John's preceding the title page have been removed, the title page has an ink city/date and a prevous owners' embossed stamp, numerous pages have tears and several have had the bottom third or half torn away, sadly the foldout map supposed to be inside the back cover is also missing, numerous pages also have either light soiling or foxing, but only a few pages have actual ink markings; overall a barely serviceable reading copy of a very scarce book. See also our listing for R. A. MacKay's Newfoundland: Economic, Diplomatic, and Strategic Studies, and for Brian Harley's The Legacy of [Royal Navy Captain] James Cook: The…
