Thomas Talbot was born in Ireland in 1818 and went to Newfoundland as a young man to teach at St. Bonaventure's College. He was later in the island's legislative council. In this volume he follows the course of his 45 years of experiences in Newfoundland, discussing topics such as the fisheries, seal hunting, geography, parliamentary elections, island politics, and Newfoundland as a field for emigration from Britain.
