Black, white and green pictorial cloth covered boards depicting the province of Newfoundland and various features of the landscape and culture. Spine ends and corners are bumped and edges are rubbed. 9 1/2" x 7". Ex-library stamp to the front end-paper for the Education Department of the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Two neat numbers to the top of the front end-paper, one neatly crossed out. Pages and edges slightly toned. Some chapter numbers in the contents list are tidily crossed out in pen; does not interfere with ability to read. A 'date due' slip is pasted onto the back paste-down and has stamps dating from 1964-1973; the slip partially covers another Memorial University stamp. Spine shaken. Very clean copy; 192 pages, including black and white photographs and maps. Details the history of Newfoundland from 'Before the White Men Came', and includes chapters, but not limited to: 'The Codfishery', 'The Spring Seal Hunt', 'A Coastal Trip', 'Soils and Farming', 'Plants and Animals', and 'Links within and without our province'. Each chapter has a 'something to do' and 'questions to answer' for the student. "On 1st April, 1949, Newfoundland, with its Labrador dependency, became the tenth province of the Dominion of Canada.
