TRUE ADVENTURE. "Originally published in 1874 and gain in 1926, this book is recognized as one of the best books ever written on the subject of whaling. Long out of print, this is an entirely new edition. The book's original 31 full-page etchings have been retained and the wording of the text is exactly as it was in the first edition. This book is a true period piece and perhaps as important for gleaning an inside picture of whaling and shilp-board life as the well-known MOBY DICK. Captain William M. Davis authoritatively describes the whalers, the ships and their implements, and has loaded his book to the 'hatch comings' with tales of adventure, every one of which is a 'corking' good story. " ... Appendix D contains two pages of antique b/w photos from a 1921 transcontnental automobile ride by Davis, taking 12 days from New York to Los Angeles. .
