About This Item
Ten Speed Press, 1992. Softcover. Like New. 0x0x0. Fascinating account of early Hawaii (the Sandwich Islands), California, and Oregon Territory, which the included what is now Washington State. A travel guide to the sights, people and their customs, and history of those places. Delightful and sympathetic. Wonderful illustrations. Nordhoff (1830-1901) was born in Prussia and emigrated to the U.S. when fifteen years old. At sea for nine years with the navy and merchant marine. Became a staff writer for the New York Evening Post and then the New York Herald. A treasure trove of early information.
