Buenos Aires: Librería y Casa Editora de Jesús Menéndez, 1938. sewn, stiff paper wrappers. large 8vo. sewn, stiff paper wrappers. 111 pages. Numbered copy; however, the size of the edition is not indicated. An 1893 account of the Biblioteca Nacional and its predecessor, the Public Library of Buenos Aires, by the Argentine scholar, historian and librarian Paul Groussac (1848-1929), who was Director of the Biblioteca Nacional from 1885 to 1929 (effectively to 1925). The founding and early years of the Library, with accounts of its directors, followed by a description, with statistics, of the Library in the early 1890's. Following this is the 1901 "discurso" by Director Groussac at the inauguration of the new building. Some browning, covers chipped and soiled, part of backing missing.
