(9 x 6.2 inches). xciii, 372, 2 pp. Cheap war-time paper browned to the edges but overall a very good copy in publishers blue cloth with gilt ruled lines and lettering to the spine. In the rare original printed dustwrapper which has long thin areas of loss to the top of the front and rear panel and both inner hinges are split, but the wrapper is essentially complete. A scarce title in first edition, and rare in the original dustrapper. ---- A detailed study of Cinema in Britain during it's infancy, including the opinions of Children, moral guardians, and many British film makers of the day.

J. Maisonneuve et Ch. Leclerc. Paris. 1889. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (9.9 x 6.4 inches). vii, 300pp. A very good copy in a fine early leather binding of full dark green morocco. Spine with gilt ruled lines, floral design and lettering. Front board with ruled panels and floral designs, all in gilt Single gilt ruled border to the rear board and board edges. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Armorial bookplate of noted author of books on folklore and topography, Sir George Laurence Gomme (1853 - 1916) on the front pastedown. Some offsetting to the endpapers from the leather turn-ins. A little rubbing to the extremities and the spine faded to an attractive brown but overall still a lovely copy of this scarce work in a fine quality binding. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

John Murray. London. + For the Booksellers. London. 1827 and 1826. EIGHT VOLUMES. 8vo. (6.5 x 4.2 inches). Six volumes of The Works, dated 1827, and two volumes of Don Juan, dated 1826. All uniformly bound in attractive fine early leather bindings of full red straight grained morocco. Spines with four raised bands, each with gilt ruling. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Gilt decorative borders on boards, with four blind stamped ruled lines inside the panel. Turn-ins with floral gilt roll. Board edges with gilt tooling to corners. All edges gilt. Neat previous owner bookplates on front paste downs. One gathering slightly sprung in volume one. Some light spotting to a few pages in each volume, but generally a clean set. Spine of volume three is a bit faded and worn and a bit of rubbing to the extremities of the other volumes but overall a very good and beautifully bound set.

Macmillan and Co. Limited. London. 1894. The Peoples edition. Twenty-third thousand. 8vo. (7.3 x 4.9 inches). Illustrated with fifty line illustrations by John Tenniel. Some foxing to the plain tissue paper guard over the frontispiece and a few minor spots throughout but overall a very clean and bright copy in a fine late 19th century leather binding. Full red calf, the spine with five raised bands, each with double rope design in gilt. Compartments ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Dark green morocco title label, gilt. Leaf and rose roll gilt borders on boards. Decorative gilt design on board edges. Decorative blind stamped inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Red silk page marker bound in. Grantham School arms stamped on the front board in gilt. Previous owners neat name stamp to top of the first leaf after title page. Aside from a small area of loss to the leather on the front board and another on the lower spine hinge this is a very good copy in a fine quality leather binding.… Read More

Recent full red morocco, spine with five raised bands, gilt. Compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. Top edge gilt. A lovely copy of this classic book. Only 3100 copies of this first edition were printed.

Heinemann. London. 1908. FIRST RACKHAM EDITION. 4to. (10.1 x 7.7 inches). Colour frontis and thirty nine tipped-in colour plates, each with a printed tissue paper guard, and 30 fine line drawings by Rackham throughout the text, some full page. Finely bound in recent full tan morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Red title label, gilt. Some light foxing throughout but still a very good copy of this beautiful book in an attractive leather binding. Rackham at his very best.

Impensis Gul Pickering. Londini. (London). 1821. MINIATURE BOOK. (3.3 x 2.1 inches). Portrait frontis, title page, 284pp (including second title page. A fine copy of this expertly printed little volume in a highly attractive leather binding of beautiful full dark green morocco by Lanscelin. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments double ruled, lettered and fully decorated in gilt. Boards with triple gilt ruled borders. Stamped monogram to the front board. Board edges double ruled in gilt. Turn-ins with elaborate gilt roll. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Orange, gold and green silk book marker sewn in. A fine copy, housed in a marbled paper covered slip-case. The slip-case has seen some damage and has been repaired with sticky tape to the edges, but has done the job of keeping the book in fine condition. A marvellous piece of book production, both the text and the binding.

Hodder and Stoughton, London. No Date. 1913. FIRST RENE BULL EDITION. 4to. (11.2 x 8.8 inches). First issue tan cloth binding with full decorative gilt and blue lettering and decoration to the front board. Spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Text translated into English verse by Edward Fitzgerald. 10 full colour tipped-in plates, each with tissue guards, 19 smaller full colour plates, and numerous line drawings throughout. A little foxing to the first and last few pages and some light rubbing to the extremities of the binding with one small spot to the spine, but overall a bright, clean copy in near fine condition. A superior copy of one of the most beautifully illustrated Rubaiyat editions.

Longmans, Green and Co. London. 1890. FIRST EDITION, first impression. 8vo. (7.3 x 5.1 inches). xii, 367pp, 16pp publishers adverts at end dated September 1890. Illustrated with 4 full page mono plates and scores of smaller illustrations throughout the text by Ford, G. P. Jacomb-Hood and Lancelot Speed. Publishers decorated red cloth binding with gilt illustration to the front board and spine, which is also lettered in gilt. The book has been professionally re-cased and has new burgundy endpapers. All edges gilt. Neat previous owners name, dated 1890, to the front blank free endpaper. Some marks and spots to a few pages but overall this is a very good copy internally with the binding showing some wear and to the extremities, particularly the hinges. Overall a near to very good copy of the second of Lang's colour Fairy books.

No place. No date. Circa 1870. ILLUSTRATED MANUSCRIPT. Oblong 8vo. (9.4 x 5.5 inches). Longfellow's popular eearly poem, An April day, written in a neat hand on 12 thick paper leaves. Ten of the leaves are beautifully illustrated in watercolour by an unknown but very skilled artist. Bound in attractive nineteenth century full red morocco. Spine with multiple gilt ruled lines and three raised bands. Both boards have a highly decorative gilt roll and ruled lines border around a double ruled and corner decorated blind tooled panel. The front board has the title and author lettered in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles and yellow coated endpapers. All edges gilt. A little rubbing to the extremities but overall a beautiful volume in very good condition.
