Description:
Amsterdam, c. 1700. Copper engraving, 50.5 x 59 cm, original hand-colour, very slight paper toning, blank verso. The map extends as far south as Paris, but the focus is on the region which is now mostly incoprorated into Belgium and Luxembourg, but was then divided between France, Spain and the United Provinces. The elaborate allegorical cartouche features a Belgian lion. Map

1684. unbound. very good(+). Engraving. 19.5" x 22.75". In very good condition. Important map of New York, New England, Pennsylvania and Virginia when it was claimed by the Dutch. Includes a beautiful panorama of New Amsterdam which notes the English hold over the Colony in the title. The Dutch took it back from England briefly in 1673. Philadelphia is noted and had just been founded by William Penn in 1682. Many domestic animals were added to entice colonists. A treat to see in black and white. Burden II, 434 (state 2)
