Large folding frontispiece, (torn), additional colour-printed architectonic title (marked), 56 (of 57) zincograph plates of architectural features and drawings, two double-page, one of a staircase in colour, lacking one of the Dietterlin ornamental plates, most plates foxed; iv+32pp text. Large folio (12.5 x 10.25in) orig. half green morocco leather binding, with leather gilt title label on front cover, very worn, damage to head and foot of spine, Charles Richardson [1806-1871] architect, was a pupil of Sir John Soane. 'Richardson is chiefly remembered as a pioneer of the Victorian appreciation of Tudor and Elizabethan architecture and as an architectural draughtsman and collector of architectural drawings' Oxford DNB. This volume, the first of his works on early English architecture has eighteen plates illustrating the features of Claverton near Bath.
