New York, 1880. Manuscript. 8.5" x 5.5. Fine. Handwritten by Arthur, as Chairman, on State of New York Republican State Committee letterhead. Clean and bold. Single sheet of approximately 8.5" x 11", folded once. Endorsed on back in pencil, thus: "Signature of / President Arthur.. Chester A. Arthur was the Republican James A. Garfield's vice-presidential running mate at the time of this letter, apparently dealing with some internal matter within the New York State Republican Party. Within a month he would be elected vice-president. Within a year Garfield's assassination would make Arthur President of the United States.
