Curmer, 1866 2 parts in 2 volumes, 4to (29.5 cm), [15] ff, 214, [7] pp; [2] ff, X, [2], XII, 168 pp, [46] ff, 24, [2], 42, [18] pp. Contemporary maroon morocco, raised bands, gilt-lettered spines, gilt double fillets on the boards' edges, marbled endpapers, gilt doublure dentelles, top edge gilt (minor shelf-wear). The first part is a book of hours illustrated with a lithographic facsimile of miniatures from The Hours of Étienne Chevalier, commissioned by Étienne Chevalier, treasurer to King Charles VII of France, from the miniature painter and illuminator Jean Fouquet (ca. 1420-1481). The second part (published in 1867) includes a biography of the artist, an essay on his portrait of Pope Eugene IV, and notes on the miniatures of the Hours. Published by Léon Curmer, printed in Chromolithographie Lemercier in 550 copies for subscribers, which included Napoleon III, Pope Pius IX, and Emperor Alexander II of Russia. A fine copy of a luxurious book produced in mid-nineteenth-century Paris based on the luxurious book of the mid-fifteenth century.
