Buffalo, NY: Cuneiform Press, 2004. Limited First Printing. Single Sheet. Very Fine. "My Ed was quondam god/ from human sod/ who spoke not loud/ but always clear and proud," (seventh stanza of poem) A bold, beautiful broadside (approx.. 18" x 14") with the title poem by Robert Creeley (1926-2005), the Black-Mountain-&-Beyond giant of American poetry, in tribute to his contemporary colleague, the great fellow Black Mountaineer poet Ed Dorn (1929-1999), author of the monumental epic poem "Gunslinger." An early, exemplary production of Kyle Schlesinger's Cuneiform Press. Schlesinger was a graduate student of Creeley at SUNY Buffalo around the time this was published. With large reproduction of a photograph of Dorn taken by Gordon Clark during September 1961 at Santa Fe, New Mexico. One of an edition of 200 un-numbered copies produced in late August 2004. This copy is hand-signed by Creeley below his printed name after the poem. It is worth noting that Creeley died on March 30, 2005, only about seven months following this signing. From the collection of Ken Mikolowski, a poet, publisher & professor who with his late wife Ann founded & conducted the Alternative Press in Detroit & later Grindstone City, Michigan. The Press published many now-collectible items by the foremost Beat Generation, Black Mountain & New York School, etc. poets, including Creeley. The Mikolowskis were close friends of Creeley, who affectionately inscribed many of his volumes to them (some of which have been sold or are still available here on our site). A stupendous Robert Creeley rarity with very significant provenance. In very fine condition on heavy, textured paper with only a few short, faint creases & tiny bumps at edges & corners. Will be shipped carefully rolled in a tube.
Signed by Robert Creeley.
